Mixed Feelings
Overall, this series was just okay. Korosensei was by far the star of the show. However, despite the show’s attempt to focus episodes on individual students, none of the other characters caught my interest quite like the unkillable, yellow octopus teacher. I also couldn’t help but find myself a bit confused on how all these kids are almost always seeming to have a good time despite the fact that they are tasked with having to kill their teacher by the end of the school year to save their planet. Obviously once starting the show you realize it is really more about how Korosensei is nurturing his students to reach their true potential rather than how they learn to assassinate him, but I can’t imagine I’d be relaxed in that position. So, I found parts of the series to drag on as I wondered how it would end because it became quite apparent that the students wouldn’t actually be murdering their beloved teacher this season. Speaking of, the ending of season 1 seemed a bit random.

In addition to that critique, I found much of the humor in the show to feel rather juvenile, but it is far from the cringiest I’ve seen in an anime.

I would still recommend this series at least as something to watch in the background while playing a game or cleaning. Korosensei is quite interesting, & while he isn’t enough to carry this show to a higher ranking, he definitely did get me to crack a smile a few times throughout watching.
