Preliminary (18/46 chp)
Incredibly shallow story how an unpopular girl with no friends gets #1 Ikemen for no reason other than being a decent person.

The plot honestly just felt like the author made a checklist of Shoujo Ai tropes and went down the list checking them off as she wrote them into the story.

In terms in characterization... well there is none.

Kageno is an incredibly poor example of a heroine. She is weak in all respects, mentally and physically, and the story is kicked off by her simply existing. All of the problems she faces in the story are resolved by someone else. Thus she has no room for character growth and she is simply there to be an airhead that kicks off the various plot points by again, existing.

Mitsunaga can be summed up by this, he is #1. The vast majority of the plot (if there is any at all) is caused by him being an ikemen. He dislikes girls that go for his looks and the ONLY reason he even remotely considered Kageno was the fact that she didn't lust over him.

These Main Characters are introduced this way in the first chapter, and will be the same throughout the entirety of the story. There is no character development whatsoever.

Every other character feels like a mob character. Unlikable in all respects, and only exist to move the plot around. Eventually she gets a "friend group" but again, through no real effort of her own. Some of these characters get character arcs lasting one chapter. Some of them even get two chapters.

The rivals are generic to the point of being a blatant copy of the the MCs. The females are pretty girls who don't think Kageno is worthwhile for Mitsunaga (which is 90% of the plot). One of the male rivals is a literal copy paste of Kageno (both in looks and demeanor). After his "arc" is over, he learns absolutely nothing and just hops to the next female mob character that bothered to say anything at all. Even worse, all of these rivals manage to stick around after somehow "redeeming" themselves.

The artwork is incredibly generic. There is nothing outstanding or noteworthy about it. My only complaint was the inconsistency of the frames involving Kageno. She gradually gets shorter throughout the series. She begins 1 head shorter than Mitsunaga, which is completely reasonable, and by Chapter 13 she was around 3 heads shorter. It's not even chibification, she basically became a kindergartner.
