I have not read the web toon or whatever the original source was, so I'm only critiquing the anime. This show is like someone had a very incoherent dream and decided to animate it without adding anything that could turn it into a fleshed out story. The characters are constantly explaining how the world works without us having any context to where they are or how these magical things are all over the place. The show tries to go for a very serious and dark tone, but then will randomly shift to a goofy looking children's cartoon. The story, the characters, the setting - everything is all over the place and this show has zero structure, like a dream. I could not make myself give a damn about any of it. Sword Art Online was more enjoyable than these first few episodes and that is really saying something.
