Pretty much everything about Overlord is mediocre. The animation is worse than the average Madhouse anime, the music is unremarkable, and the characters are pretty uninteresting. The story isn't nearly as bad as something like sao but it isn't any better than your average shounen.
The idea of the protagonist being the villain is an interesting idea but they don't do anything very interesting with it.
All of this mediocrity plus the show consisting of mostly characters standing around talking lead to this being an pretty boring anime that I found hard to finish.
Isekai anime like Log Horizon do the trapped in a mmorpg premise so much better so I can't say I recommend watching this anime when it doesn't do anything all that special.
