5cm per second is without a doubt one of the most visually beautiful anime you will ever see. I was simply astounded at how well the graphics looked almost real at some parts of the show. The story is at first is touching with the romance part between a guy and a girl and how they are going to be inseparable. But the part of the story that it really takes off is when she moves away to another city. She continually writes to him and he writes back but eventually as they get older they stop writing to each other and things change. The guy is never able to move on as for the girl she does, and lives her life with another guy. The main character has a girlfriend but as she says even after exchanging 1000 text messages their hearts only got one centimeter closer. The story ends kind of abruptly with the main character never knowing if he saw her or not when crossing the railroad. This is really the only part that is kind of disappointing because the story ends very sadly with no hope for the main character of ever becoming happy. But even so I would still recommend seeing it because although sad and depressing it is a very good representation of what life is.
