Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (4/13 eps)
As a huge fan of the original Madoka Magica tv series and the movies I was really hoping forward to watching a continuation or side story to the already existing material, but this feels like a botched attempt to replicate Bakemonogatari.

What I liked:
-It looks and sounds mostly like the old anime, although the music doesn't stand out as much as the original
-It still has that crispy unique artstyle that changes to borderline absurd when the witch fights happen
And thats it

The issues:
-It keeps shoving characters in my face that I don't care about, like, they introdouce 5 characters in 1 episode and expect me to care about when something happens to them, while I'm still trying to process who these people are
-Not really thought or emotion provoking, in one episode this girl gets kidnapped, but the resolution is that she becomes friends with her friend again, gee.. thanks? Isn't the thing that made the original so good that it broke clichés?
-The character costumes and powers are bland, why do these people have these powers? Is there a reason? No, its all generic. In the original they got their power from their wish, like for instance the girl who deceived people had a spear that turned into a snake, but here they don't even explain character motivations or anything like that so thats all thrown out the window

My overall score is a 5, its not unwatchable and I can see someone enjoying it, but it just feels like a poor attempt to cash in on a show that broke boundries and defined a genre.
