Preliminary (30/39 eps)
This is the rare anime that goes above and beyond and manages to be better than the manga that it's adapting. And I don't mean just a little better but it completely transcends it. I have been looking forward to this particular season for a very long time (since Part 5 is my top 3 favorite JoJo parts) and it did not disappoint. If anything, it just shattered my expectations. I knew it was going to be good, but I didn't expect it to be this good.

The plot is simplistic but it isn't necessarily a bad thing. The plots for the previous parts were also relatively simple and in this season, the motivations are more justified. The pacing is pretty good- each episode covers a decent amount of manga chapters and they don't waste time with any additional content they added. Any additional content only served to make the season better as it expands upon things left untouched in the manga and it doesn't waste time. The only problem I could possibly see is that viewers may notice that the backstories are almost back-to-back, and could get repetitive. I personally didn't, as I found each character's backstories interesting.

The art is simply incredible. It's so colorful, fluid, and vibrant that you just have to see to believe it. Out of all the parts, Part 5 has the most consistent animation. The only episode where the animation wasn't as amazing was Episode 22 but everything else is fantastic. It's truly one of the best animations I've seen in any anime. I'd go so far as to consider DavidProductions to be in the same league as Madhouse- the attention to detail and every little thing is mind-blowing.

The sound is amazing as well. Both OPs- Fighting Gold and Traitor's Requiem, are some of the best OP in all the JoJo parts, rivaling Bloody Stream and Stand Proud (IMO of course) and while I didn't like Freek'n' You personally as I found it's ridiculousness lessened the tension in some episodes, Modern Crusaders is fantastic. The only gripe I have with the OP (especially the second one) is that it spoils a lot. JoJo openings have a lot of foreshadowing, but the second OP flat out shows crucial scenes in the manga. The sound design is a treat. Whether it's the sound of Stands materializing, Gold Experience's life effect, Moody Blues rewinding, etc. it's all great. There was nothing that was grating on the ears. The OST is the best it's ever been in any JoJo part. Giorno and Bruno's themes are epic and the music is done so well that certain scenes made me tear up, despite knowing exactly what was going to happen. That's how perfect the music is.

The characters are, for the most part, incredible. Everyone in the gang has their own little quirk (like Mista's fear of the number 4 and Fugo's short temper) and makes them more likable and human. While not quite as stellar as Stardust Crusader's cast, this group is a close second. Bruno especially, in fact he may be TOO good, to the point where I'd say he overshadows the protagonist himself, similar to Polnareff and Jotaro in Part 3. I wish some characters got more screentime, but that's more on Araki himself and not the anime. The Hitman Team is one of the best villain group in all of Shonen, on par with the Phantom Troupe of HxH. The Boss himself is mysterious and terrifying and is a highly complex character as you find out in later episodes.

The fights are always top-notch. For anyone not familiar with JoJo, it's not a typical Shonen where sheer power wins the day. Much like Nen in HxH, the fights are all about tricking and outsmarting opponents with whatever abilities you have and it makes for some creative fights. You won't be bored with the fights, that's for sure.

TL;DR: Easily the best JoJo season, and one of the best adaptations ever, this is nothing short of a masterpiece. This is surely in the right hands with DavidPro and I cannot wait for future parts to be animated (especially Steel Ball Run). Highly recommend you watch it, especially if you liked Parts 3 and 4.
