It's a simple premise: cats are from an alien world and forgot why they are here. As a cat owner, I can attest to the believability of this. From outer space comes Ultra Nyan who awakens the cats near where he lands and in a series of adventures prevails over hardships and opposition. Both the cats and some local kids help each other defeat the bad guys.
This is good clean fun! The simplified art is wonderfully matched with the gorgeous backgrounds. The VA and music is wonderful (for its age, this is an 'old school anime' and some allowance must be made!) but the best part is the characters.
Cats, humans & bad guys are simply yet wonderfully depicted. A lot of set-up is un-necessary: it's easy to figure out. But that doesn't mean it's shallow or unimportant: this has a lot of meat for such an innocent and straight-forward anime.
Why only 8? Because there's nothing to set it above that mark. It is really excellent, but not 'world changing' at all. So if "only" a 8 isn't enough for you... well then. NYAA!
