As of today, the day I wrote this review I watch Howl no Ugoku Shiro(Howl's Moving Castle) for the first time today. I can't believe that I didn't watch it sooner though! Though I love the movie overall I thought I would write this review just too explain my thoughts on why I love this film so much.
Firstly, I want to mention the main character Sophie, even though she was cursed she eventually figured out how to handle being elderly and even embraced when she left her home.
I also loved the details of the setting, the 1800's plus elements of magic. Well, I may not remember the exact name of the whole kingdom they are in, I take a clue that the time period is similar to the 1800's or more specifically the late 1800's. Seeing how the king used the magic within world as a weapon along with more scientific weapons such as bombs is really interesting too me.
And can I say how amazing the music is! I don't know the names of all the songs yet but the main theme is just gorgeous and helped reinforce the setting of the movie.
The relationship between Sophie and Howl was plain beautiful too. Seeing that it wasn't the age that was cursed upon Sophie didn't deter Howl from thinking of Sophie as a beautiful person was just amazing.
Having Howl's emotional arc based around beauty was genius too! Who ever helped come up with that idea for Howl as a character deserves a medal or some form of a reward!
Also as many of Studio Ghibli's films, the art style was gorgeous. I think the scenery of the movie can tell most people that though. Even the moving castle had a lot of artistic merit too it, even though it was rusted and showed a lot of age.
I wish I could tell more reasons why I think this is a amazing movie in this review but I personally don't want to spoil too much. Overall I think that this movie should belong in the anime collection of any fan of anime or just films in general. It's a great film and deserves any reward it has gotten or any rewards it will get in the possible future.
