Their are many anime that try to play on your emotions most don't succeed and end up seeming a bit forced but their is however exceptions to this rule and one of those is welcome to the NHK. That of which exceeds in crafting a story that can make you feel emotionally attached to it's deep characters and of their struggles that they face over the course of the anime.

Sometimes this anime can be genuinely funny and other times it can be extremely depressing but it is balanced in such a way that it doesn't seem overly serious or overly funny it's just right.

The plot is very easy to follow and doesn't have much in the way of a complexity its simple and surprisingly it really works. Though its characters have alot of depth and their backstory's and personality are all very Intresting which is mainly the problem for most anime as many tend to bore you with unnecessary information about a said character and become a bit convoluted which is not the case for Welcome to the NHK. It may be a slow starter at first but it really starts to pick up just a few episodes in and by then the story would of just grabbed you and never let you go.

The artstyle may be rather bland but it does the job well. The sound is a great mixture of blues songs which really does help set the mood for the right scene.

Pros
Great soundtrack
Good character depth
a simple yet effective storyline
a plot that really sucks you in
a well thought out mixture of emotional scenes

Cons
A bland Artstyle
Slow to Start

Overall its a great anime and very much worth watching. I would personally think you would be doing yourself a huge disservice for not watching it. Hell i would even reccommend this anime for people who dislike anime as it is quite different to the anime norm.
