Man this was something, Bakemono no Ko or The Boy and the Beast in English was a movie that certainly reminded me of some of my favorite movies of all time, be it the fairly generic story of a child having issues with his family and getting involved in a new fantasy-like world or the stellar character design and storytelling like Wolf Children.
Story: As I said, it was generic but that's by no means its downfall, you can tell a great story as long as the characters make it worth watching. It was predictable to a certain degree (as to who the villain will be) but there was also enough elements of mystery involved, so you never knew exactly what will happen.
The time skip was also rather interesting and not something I'd have seen coming at the beginning.
Art: It's a movie, of course it looks hella good. Amazing backgrounds, cgi used in a way it doesnt burn my eyes and oh god the character design is one of the best I've seen in a long time.
Sound: I liked the soundtrack, not my favorite but it fits really well into the movie and always emphasizes what is happening.
Characters: We get arguably two main characters who share a lot of the same personality but still complement each other fairly well.
The supporting cast was also really good for a movie, it's hard to really develop anyone but the main character in just 2 hours but they very much managed to, well, support our main characters in great fashion.
Enjoyment and Overall: Really enjoyed this, an easy to follow story, characters that complement each other, great art, nothing was annoying in any way and I wouldnt mind rewatching it at any time. If you liked Wolf Children, Ghibli or furries (lol) this movie is a no-brainer to watch.
