Higurashi is without a doubt, the greatest murder-mystery anime of the decade.

At first, the story is told from the perspective of a boy moving into a small town, which I forget the name of. The entire story revolves around supernatural events occurring within this town.

Our main character *SPOILER WARNING* whom I have also forgotten the name of, dies after about 3 episodes (in a very bloody fashion, I might add) *SPOILERS END HERE*

Then, the story is told from different perspectives, slowly unraveling the mysterious "Curse of the Shrine God" that has been occurring for the past few years. This curse will kill people without warning, and without explanation, and it will be bloody under normal circumstances. The curse becomes later, more logically explainable until the mystery of it is finally unraveled.

Higurashi will use the commonly used horror aspect of a "Murderous Little Girl" that is so popular in Japanese Horror themes. But it was actually scary (for once) and so well done, unlike normally.

Higurashi is an anime that builds up a lot of expectations and makes you think. It's a story and a puzzle at the same time, and as you continue along the story, the puzzle solves itself. The characters were given lots of development in such a short amount of time, it's actually quite surprising.

I recommend Higurashi to anyone that likes murder mysteries, or anyone that wants to get into them.
