For those who enjoyed the series, but felt that the end budget constraints and original ending were dissapointing (Before End of Eva), this is for you.

For the most part is pretty 1:1 the original series which is great because A) The original is still fantastic generally and is still preserved and respected here and B) It ends up adding so much new content and additional details to the characters and scenarios, despite how small some of them are, that it all feels completely new from their inclusion alone and developed them far beyond the original series.

The additions that shine brightest are the characters who, although subtly different in ways from the series, are given just that bit more personality, helped by the art especially, with more time spent to develop each and every one of them featuring more intereaction between all of them. Being able to hear what every character is thinking and adding to their interactions being key to the manga over the series. Kaworu in particular, who I personally felt was weak in his original inclusion being introduced overly late in the series to have a proper emotional impact, being given far more development and time overall which can be said for every character.

Flawless art. Captures Eva's original imagery and scale effortlessly while adding new imagery and ideas which are iconic in their own right. There's still the same level of care and character as the original series, but like the story, the manga simply adds more to it and has more fun taking advantage of little details in every page.

Just like the original, it's also just generally very fun while also tackling serious topics. The character chemistry is consistently interesting and hilarious when it wants to, the fights are engaging with some incredible imagery (Kaworu in Unit 03 literally weilds a chainsaw at one point), the story goes in directions you don't expect even if you've seen the original and it always manages to remain entertaining with both its humor and more personal issues without going too far on either one with both complimenting each other.

If you liked the series, then you will adore the manga. Every issue I had with the series was dealt with by the manga and more content was added on top from there. The Defintive Evangelion experience in my mind.
