Hands down one of my favorite sports anime seen to date. A buddy of mine went to Japan recently and he said folks there are absolutely in love with this series, one of the more popular anime of all times there, as well. I read the manga first and fell in love with it. Watching the anime, furthered my love for it. The classic sound effects and themes were top notch, in my opinion. If you enjoy sports anime, this is definitely one to watch. You shouldn't regret it.
The characters and character development were perfect, for me. I enjoy seeing characters improve as the series goes on and the specific friendships/ rivalries they develop. As with many of the sports anime out today, i would like to have seen what unfolded after the series ended, but this cant be helped ( i would say this in a more specific way but i dont want to spoil nothing).
Anyhow, great series both to read and watch. Glad i took the time to watch it!
