I was recommended this series a few years ago when I started watching anime, so it's always been floating in my subconscious to watch and experience. Part of me avoided it for some time, but in an attempt to understand the many jokes that result from this series, I decided to give it a shot.

I must remember that sometimes instincts are definitely something I should follow more often than not.

Did I enjoy this series? Partially. It had some enjoyable moments, or else I wouldn't have been able to complete it; however, this series was in an array of absurdity. The character motivations are askew and often uninteresting, sometimes they barely make sense and are just there to serve the plot. For a thriller or psychological idea with this kind of weight, I feel like there could've been much done there, but Mirai Nikki just serves as a joy ride, so it wasn't satisfying. It didn't leave me fulfilled to have watched it, and was all the colour without the lines. It tries to be a lot without having very basic story structure. Some parts were fun, but the feelings of confusion that arose from almost anything that happened overwhelmed that.

Something that irked me more than the ridiculousness of the plot twists and such, is that there's no weight to a character's choices. When there is consequences they are easily excused, and I feel this is because of lazy screenwriting, which I found a little insulting only because the premise of the series had so much promise. If there were a more reasonable weight to the consequences of a particular choice a character has made, this would've made me appreciate the psychological aspect of the characters more, and I would've had more empathy for them. When by the last few episodes they try to rush all the weight of some of that, of which should've been built throughout the series, I couldn't help but laugh in bouts at literally every time the main characters got emotional and sentimental. I could not take the series seriously. You can't just have 26 episodes, just hint at some things in a main character's story to me, and then just throw it all in at the last 5-6 and expect me to get past all the things they've done before and make me care about them, especially coupled with the weirdest plot twist I've come to experience in something for quite some time.

Was the series predictable? Yes.
Was the plot twist expected? No, and the reason for that is, yes, they didn't really hint towards that being a possibility before, but it felt more like an excuse to make something else happen to just throw in there just... because.

I'm also very critical of Yuno and Yukki's relationship. Obviously it is not a healthy one, but the reason why I feel so critical of it is because it lacked sincere clarity, and consistency. In fact, nothing about this series is very consistent at all. Characters will make sudden choices just to move the plot forward, no matter how stupid and unfitting it may seem for them. I really couldn't care less what happened to them. I was just witnessing all hell break loose with absolutely no empathy towards the possible results.

The plot holes, at first, were excusable, but it just goes into a down spiral. It feels as if this series didn't have any qualms to make a great impact, though it wanted to. Even the fight scenes didn't impact superbly. There's just lots of messed up things happening for show, and nothing to fall back on.

It was completely and utterly disappointing, and I don't think I've felt so mad about a series before. There were perhaps 1-2 characters I actually felt a connection with, of which I would've loved more story behind, but dreams are for free.
