Seems like your typical futuristic-samurai-romance-high-school-mecha-alien-science-y anime, but I'd argue they take everything you expect from this particular genre and up it a few notches. It's actually funny, can be a bit ridiculous, and there are good fight scenes if you can ignore the CGI. The plot is good, too; just when you think you've got it all figured out, there's a plot twist. I even shed tears at the end of the second season, it was so sweet. All the characters are well-rounded and encounter their own difficulties. Loved the character depth and development. This anime has a really funny clash of genres but it's interesting and really entertaining. Highly recommend.
