I was really excited to watch this anime because I heard the author was Monogatari's author! The author of one of my favorite anime has written another dialog-driven anime? Wooh. Yes, I was definitely excited. But it ended up being a disappointment from that perspective. It was definitely dialog-driven, but it cannot even hold a candle to the beauty that is the Monogatari series.

This anime was also supposed to a one for good fights. But, even there...
Expecting uber-cool fight scenes? Watch Unlimited Blade Works instead.
Expecting "AHA!" tactics during fights? Watch Hunter x Hunter instead.
Really a let down here, because one of the MCs is supposed to be a schemer/strategist.

But despite this, it had a pleasant flow to it. It flowed slowly, but not tediously, like a folklore. The animation was also charming; very unique. So was the OST. Watch it when you just want to chill and don't want to watch something that would demand your attention.

Was it a good anime? Yes. Did it have a lot of nuances and sub-plots? Maybe. But, it also could be just that, we the viewers, are grasping at straws to make sense of this plain old 'monogatari'.

The ending did make complete sense from Togame's perspective. Though sad, it was beautiful in a way. Shichika's ending? He did have tremendous character growth. And yes, you could say that also made sense. But Hitei's ending? That irked me. But I guess that just showed how much Shichika has grown as a character. And I also felt like the ending tried to make the anime much more grandiose than it was in reality.

Turn off some parts of your brain and come relax in the world of Katanagatari (7.5/10)

Cheerio!
