In many ways this is your usual shonen story: a plain, unremarkable guy suddenly gets involved in an extraordinary situation when his life is disrupted by a girl that has fallen from the sky (not exactly but I hope you get my point). And yet there's something very special about this series and the way it deals with the emotional issues affecting their main characters. It was just adorable to see Shana struggle with the conflicting emotions she was having. They also were a sign of just how young she truly was despite the great responsibility she bore. I think that emotional struggle is something all of us can relate to from our younger years.

On other accounts the anime is very weak. The enemies "schemes" were usually very nonsensical and a very sad excuse for action. I couldn't take any of the enemies seriously to be honest. This makes me fear watching the second and third season because they will probably contain more of this given that the character fundamentals (what I found to be the compelling part of the series) have already been laid out but I guess I can't escape watching them now. I can only hope that they all have something special that make them worth watching besides said the "action".

ENGLISH DUB observations: I almost forgot to add this. For some reason Yuji says "Shawna" instead of "Shana" which is kind of weird. Also, on season 2 the voices of some characters seem to have been changed for the worst which is a huge screw up in my opinion. One of the characters now sounds "bratty" instead of cool and aloof (what he is supposed to be). Anyways, if you want to avoid the disappointment then please avoid the english dub.
