I always loved the horror genre (movies or TV series) so why not try Horror anime? That's what I did with Ghost Hunt. Verdict? I have absolutely no regrets. Ghost Hunt was able to satisfy my expectations.
Mai is a young orphan who loves shudder of fear listening to ghost stories told by her classmates. All that was normal, you might say, especially when considering his own youthful experiences. But now, there is a huge difference between imagine living something scary and really find yourself confronted overnight with strange phenomena that make you tremble. Yet this is what will happen to May the day when she met Kazuya Shibuya (Naru) who, despite his young age, 17, appears to be at the head of the Shibuya Psychic Research, a specialized investigative office in solving paranormal mysteries. Forced to become his assistant, Mai, despite herself, became a privileged witness of a true ghost hunt.
First observation: the action is scarce. You almost never see frantic race or muscular fight between the ghost hunters and their prey. However, don't imagine for one second, on the pretext that there is no or little action, you get bored by watching this anime. Indeed, the strength of this anime lies primarily in its atmosphere I would describe it as oppressive. I still have in mind that doll head that the "camera" and the focus is expected at any time to see it move, it undoubtedly end up doing.
This constant tension is due to the OST. Never a music seemed to me too intrusive and disturbing than Ghost Hunt music. The realization and animation are also not left out and contribute significantly to immerse the viewers in a kind of perpetual anxiety.
In short, all that to say to fans of the genre that it will be cold sweats at the rendezvous. While the episodes progress, they will be even more numerous and more intense.
The only complaint we do to Ghost Hunt is that it seems unfinished. Too many questions remain unanswered at the end of the series.
Undeniably, a second season was planned. Too bad it didn't ultimately emerged. The most curious of you no longer have to jump on the scans of the original manga for more.
Despite this flaw, Ghost Hunt remains a great series to watch. Its horrific side is rather enjoyable and its humor helps us to breathe between two fears.
