Preliminary (10/25 eps)
OK this one is extremely popular. I have dropped this for my own reasons, i.e. based on my own viewing. As there are a bunch of fan reviews all giving it a 10, I will only state the reasons why it is not as great as people think it is. You can read the positive reviews to balance things out.

My criticism of this anime is divided into
1. Story
2. Sport simulation
3. Powers

The Story

Plagiarized. It's a rehash of Slam Dunk. In both shows you get a basketball team that was really bad, and then the following year we have our protagonists who join and the team gets a power surge and become this all conquering behemoth. In slam Dunk we had Sakuragi and Rukawa, here we have Kuroko and Kagami. It’s pretty much a pattern you see in all shounen anime. The story is also bad when one considers that Seirin is only a year old, but yet has the ability to draw players of the caliber of kuroko and Kagami to join them. In short this is an anime on how an ant becomes Goliath, Not David.

But who am I to complain? A vast majority of anime (shounen) feature similar inspirational stories of the underdog rising to the occasion and defeating far superior foes. The target audience for these type of stories exceed those of far more complex ones, usually kids who would not be mature enough to criticise this. They say familiarity breeds contempt, not in Japan. It breeds lots of Yens there.

Sport Simulation

Kuroko no baske does not portray basketball (despite what its fans say). As a fan of the sport I can easily deduce that play is closer to netball than basketball. The players on this anime rarely dribble. The cause of this is....

.......Powers

I've never understood why Japanese writers are so obsessed with powers. This is understandable when one is writing a battle manga like DBZ, but this is a sport manga where realism is essential. The cause of this is the so-called generation of miracles. In short they are saiyans who play basketball, and not basketball players.

In each arc or whatever of this anime we get introduced to one of the generation of miracles, in Seirins rise to the top. Each match seirin plays they have to over-come a super human ability to progress. For example - Midoriyama can score 3 pointers from ABSOLUTELY ANYWHERE ON THE COURT, he DOES NOT MISS. What makes midoriyama even worse is the fact that he scores 3 pointers than goes back to defense while talking to a team mate before the BALL GOES THROUGH THE BASKET. Even our very own protagonist Kuroko has an ability. He can disappear on the court, and no one will know where he is (Except another character who has a similar ability to his).

Even their coach/manager has powers. She can deduce the abilities of players by just looking at their naked self in front of her. Really? Yeah right more like a closet prostitute.

OK THE FANS WILL SAY TO YOU "YOU DO NOT WATCH THIS ANIME BECAUSE YOU WANT TO SEE TRUE BASKETBALL REPRESENTATION, YOU WATCH IT BECAUSE IT’S FUN AND EPIC"

Sadly for them that is not true. When a person picks any anime it’s because of the concept the anime is based on. In short we watch kuroko no baske because we want to see some basketball anime clear and simple. If that was not the reason, the viewership for this anime would be low. It's like watching naruto with the expectation of seeing ninjas, foolish.

Thank you for reading. Now go and watch some more repetitious anime.
