The trailer for this movie actually fooled me, as I thought this was going to be some kind of love story between these girls. It's not, its really about friendship. Now to be honest this anime was not my top priority, but today I had the sudden urge to watch it. The animations was beautiful and the story was too. I liked the two main characters Anna and Marnie, and during this movie when you hear about their pasts, its depressing, especially Marnie. I really appreciated the end that came with this anime, it was nice and very satisfying.

I had seen so many people commenting on how this is their favorite Ghibli film and I gotta say for me personally it wasn't. I've seen better Ghibli films and although this probably had the best animation out of all of them, it didn't have that same feel as the rest of them.

Now obviously that's ridiculous, I mean it IS a Ghibli film and it tells a story quite different than any other of the Ghibli films. I didn't think a lot happened in this anime and believe me I truly want to absolutely love it, but I'd be lying if I said I did. I felt the friendship between Anna and Marnie came off a bit forced, and so I wasn't as engaged in the scenes they had together. I think this is an alright movie overall, I think it just depends on the kind of person you are whether you enjoy this or not. I mean if I was wanting to get someone into anime, this wouldn't exactly be the film I'd choose. I enjoyed it fairly and I do recommend this movie, but maybe don't go out of your way.
