A long, warm hug

Natsume Yuujinchou is an anime with a very particular pace. It's not a story that moves forward very fast. But things do develop, and it's this journey we go on with Natsume, who ultimately grows from being an introverted, lonely, socially withdrawn boy, to a sensitive, caring and righteous person, that makes this anime so worthwhile.

Natsume Yuujnchou is filled with fantasy, making it generally fun to watch, but its essence is something that will resonate with a lot of people. Loneliness, feeling out of touch with other people, being afraid to be mocked or shunned, are feelings most of us will recognize. To see how Natsume has to overcome each of those, while coming to understand that it's okay to make your own way through life, is what makes this anime so pleasing to watch.

Watching this anime never disappoints. It's always willing to extend a hand to those who need a moment of peace, telling the story of a boy who, through his awkward position in between the human world and the world of spirits, still manages to find his own way. The anime reminds us that things are not always wat they seem.
Watching it feels like getting a long, warm hug.
