Oregairu, an anime unlike any other I have seen. It dares to explore views and insights into the behaviour of youth that people tend to want to ignore. There is normally a loner or two at school, but they are mostly ignored. So what happens when you explore the mind of those in solitude? You get an amazing set of characters and scenarios which can seem almost too real at times.

Story
While this isn't the first anime I have seen with a volunteer club setting, it is the most memorable. It is the perfect set up for this anime, and a good way to introduce other characters, all the while growing closer to those in the club. The development of the relationships between the three main characters, and their individual 'helping' strategies go hand in hand to create a simple and understandable plot, but with elaborate and intricate side details which do have major affects on the story.

Art
There is nothing truly spectacular about the art, but also nothing terrible. However one notable positive was the consistency between the family members of the series. Too often do I see characters that are supposed to be blood related have no physical resemblance. However, in this anime characters do share physical traits.

Sound
Average sound quality. The voice actor of Hikigaya Hachiman did a great job with the ever-cynical tone, and the voice actress for Yukino Yukinoshita also performing amazingly providing a cold voice for a character seemingly made of ice. However, the intro and outro songs didn't fit, as they seemed more for a full romance based show, taking away from what the show is really about.

Character
The three main characters are explored wonderfully, providing sufficient information, yet not being overburdened with useless information. The way they talk, to the body language they exhibit and down to the looks they trade with each other provide more knowledge than an in-depth flashback could ever give. Hachiman is a unique character. A true introvert and hopeful house-husband. Rotten to the core, lazy and a narcissist. Traits often not wanted by most, yet his character is so lovable it is scary.

Enjoyment
After re-watching this a second time, I still love the series. If you are tired of the typical school romance anime, you will most likely enjoy this. A well executed anime showing the thought processes and emotions (or lack thereof) of those not socially active may not seem like a good premise, but it is pulled of amazingly and provides you with more than you will expect.

Overall, a great anime which goes against the standards of the romance genre and shows the other side of what happens in school life. Interesting characters and a self-explaining story which doesn't need to hold your hand for you to follow. I really do recommend the watch.
