Lucky Star is stupid. Lucky Star is like, REALLY, REALLY stupid. But I love it. The genre of "Funny slice of life anime" could be called over-saturated by some, and a dead horse so far gone it's just dust now by others. But in the genre, Lucky Star is one of the few incredibly standout series that can manage to make you smile no matter what mood you're in. The only real way to describe the series is "Dumb, silly fun." Or "otaku bait" but who cares?
PLOT/CHARACTERS: It has no real overarching plot to it, it's just about 4 (and then 10) girls going through high school. They each have their own traits and stuff, and they could be seen as one-sided, but who care's it's goddamn Lucky Star. You aren't watching this for gripping narrative or stellar character drama, you're watching it because you want to see a bunch of cute girls do silly things for 24 episodes.
ART:
Lucky Star is adorable. Like, it's really cute. The moe-looking art style really lends itself to silly comedy anime, and it fits Lucky Star like a glove. Each main character is distinct and you can tell them apart from a glance.
SOUND:
Lucky Star has one of the most memorable OST's i've listened to in a slice of life anime this side of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Punctuated with memorable and jolly piano tunes, as well as normal background music fare, it serves its purpose flawlessly, and I still hear the tunes in the back of my head as I go through my day-to-day life.
ENJOYMENT:
This is a personal aside, but I really love this series. My rating is a personal bias, sure, but I can't think of too many series that can make me smile no matter what mood I'm in.
OVERALL:
Go watch it if you haven't. If you don't like it you'll just be biased and be reading this to laugh at, in your mind idiots, and if you like the series as much as me you're just looking for confirmation bias. I dunno man, go form your own opinion, but I really like it. Also, yes episode 1 sucks, we all know.
