Kemono no Souja Erin is a children's show, but by no means does that implies that it is bad. Quite the opposite! This show is quite good!

The art is simplistic and is not for everybody. I have heard some people call it ugly and the animation is cheap at times, but this is a 50 episode children's anime, so I can give it a pass. One of the highlights of the show is the shift in art style that makes me feel like I'm reading a storybook or viewing a piece of historical art. Whether the art is good or bad, it gets the job done.

The story is the backbone of the story. It starts off relatively slow, but it does have periods of times where the story picks up, only to eventually go back to a slower pace. Most of the episodes revolve around slice of life moments, or world building. It's not until the last chunk of the second half does the story really shine but for the most part, the story is about Erin and the world she is growing up in.

Sound wise, the OST is very charming, and I personally love the opening Shizuku by Sukima Switch. However, you will hear a lot of the same songs being reused, especially if you marathon this series.

Character-wise, Kemono no Souja Erin has a very diverse cast of characters, ranging from Erin herself, her classmates and teachers at a Beastinarian academy, royalty, and assassins. There are two comedic sidekicks that follow her around that most people consider annoying. Although they are stereotypical screwups, they really care about Erin and have their heart in the right place. Overall, none of these characters felt 2 dimensional. All of them have a personality and none of them felt forced (aside from the 2 sidekicks). A breath of fresh air considering the amount of stereotypical Tsunderes, Kuuderes, and whatnot that plague anime today.

The anime is good, but it isn't perfect. Again, sometimes the pace is as slow as pudding, and the art is kinda wonky, but it does world building well and almost all of the characters are interesting and play their part well. Watch it if you have time and patience.
