I didn't really understand why the soundtrack was so emotional while watching the first season of Clannad, because the anime seemed pretty light and happy. It wasn't until watching After Story that I came to realize just how fitting it really was. Clannad: After Story combines a truly touching story with one of the greatest soundtracks of all time to create what can only be described as the masterpiece that transcends masterpieces. 11/10 for Clannad: After Story.
I couldn't live with myself if I didn't at least say something about the story and characters. If you are someone who likes action like myself, the first season might be a little boring at first. But it's necessary to get to know the characters. Whatever you do, do not stop watching, or skip to After Story until you finish it. Because this is a story about growing up. We get to follow these people's story of friendship and family through the good times and the bad. It's not over the top, it's not cliche, it's perfectly human.
The terrific portrayal of the hardships and loss we all face on our journey through life brings about a new appreciation of our own lives. That's what makes this a story that everyone should hear. I would say do not miss it for the world, but this anime shows us that the one's we love are what's most important, so make sure you watch it with them. Because there will be an end to your story, just like there is an end to this one, so treasure every moment. Even if you never watch anything else in your life, watch Clannad and Clannad: After Story, the greatest anime series of all time.
P.S. If you don't shed at least one tear while watching this anime, then you must not be human. I have not ever read or watched anything more tear jerking than Clannad: After Story in my entire life, nor do I believe I ever will again.
