I originally started watching this anime because I was looking for an anime with some sort of homosexual romance with mature themes. I fell in love with the characters. Rat and Shion were absolutely adorable leads and my heart was melting at the relationship between the two. It did leave a lot to be desired though. They never actually drew closer together than just a couple kisses, which were more like pecks tbh.

Also, I felt very bitter sweet at the end of the story. For one, only being twelve episodes long doesn't really leave much room for an elaborate plot. At the end of the show I was just feeling like it was a bit rushed,. It didn't really explain a whole lot of things, like how characters are able to communicate telepathically, or what the hell the baby was thrown in there for, it didn't go into any more detail about the people of the forest or shion's mom's involvement with the city, or why rat and shion simply part ways at the end. The ending didn't leave an enormous impact on me.

So why should you watch this anime and why does it deserve an 8? Well, it fulfilled one of my biggest wishes, which was to see a mature anime with some sort of homosexual relationship. This isn't a romance anime though, it's more about the struggles of dealing with an apocalyptic 1984 style city. I only read the first few pages of that book, but now I feel like going back and reading more of it after finishing this series.

So to tie up this review, the art style was lush and stylish, the characters were crisply and attractively drawn. The story left a lot to be desired. It creates a lot of canon stories, but so many of them seem to go totally unresolved. It didn't progress the relationship between rat and shion any further, which I was really hoping that it would. You know what though? It had me hooked throughout most of the show, leading up to the end it was very fun to watch. I was really excited to see the ending of the show, but I think it left a lot to be desired. The average adds up to 8 though, because there were a ton of redeeming factors.
