Well,for those who just started the series with /stay night,you might allude some problems,like the protagonist being completely useless,but let's don't get into spoilers.
I recommend you to watch the series,starting with /stay night for a reason some people would say It's pointless:Because If you can get through 24 episodes of a dumb main character,an oldie Art that might bother some people,and a kind-of-slow pace,everything else will be wonderful.Unless you came to watch a Romance anime with a big backstory,you will be a bit disappointed with what you might've been looking for.
But not everything is so bad.Fights are a bit more interesting than they would seem,and if you like character development,for god's sake you'll get it.And other protagonists (Which aren't Emiya Shirou,the main character) get along with the story quite good.At least that's a big part of why I enjoyed Fate/Stay night.But as I'd like to repeat,It's not that good.
