inb4 you even think of collecting this you better check your bank savings. This shite is $$$. Better off with scanlations if even findable.

Right off the bat, it's clear that this is a book aimed for comedy. 4koma lyfe. If you're familiar with Klonoa's characters then that should tell you nearly every one of them is destined to be off in some degree. It should also tell you that it isn't gonna follow the original story much, either. Honestly the cover art is a tad misleading for the inside.

Not saying those are bad things, though. If you're a fan of both that jazz and Door to Phantomile then you're in for a fun ride. But if you're one looking for a straight-out manga adaption of the game's story then nah, nono. Namco nor Klonoa Works weren't up for it ever.

The writers + illustrators obviously had a good, joyful time creating their bits. Some follow each other, most don't. There's even a couple of real decent one-shots that are a good few pages long. The art ranges from cute to sorta creepy. This includes stylish Sailor Moon esque mugs, cutesy crayon outlines, silly simple doodles, weird big cat eyes, etc. etc.. Big fans of artistic variety are gonna eat this up so if you're one of them, prepare thyne body. Might also have a good chuckle here and there throughout your reading, especially if you're familiar with the characters' personalities (even when they're twisted as said above), but slice-of-life comedy is included in some of these teeny tales, so there's room for newcomers as well.

When it comes to the more-than-once-aformentioned characters acting outside of their usual personality, it's a little wild. Some of the sweetest and more caring individuals can be supreme smart-asses, literally slamming their cherished friends with hammers as a sarcastic insult, whilst the more heroic and/or intelligent are either unaware or just flat-out dumbfounded. All of these flips were done for the sake of comedy and since this is exactly what these sort of comics aim for, it nails it for most.

In short: If you're all good in the neighborhood with slapstick, goofball humor sided with grand art variety and the rare opprotunity to see this sort of thing even happen within this series of video games, then you'll love it. If you're seeking for an accurate depiction of the game, though, then the door's right there for ya.
