First, I haven`t read the Manga, though I did watch the first season. After watching Tokyo Ghoul Root A, all I can say is that there was absolutely nothing wrong with this anime. I can understand why many people aren`t pleased with it, as they were all aparently expecting some sort of masterpiece, however I`m not one of them. It`s a guidline for me to not bother getting hyped for yet to be released products, much easier than being dissapointed, so I started from 0 and worked my rating from there, rather than starting it at a 10 then slowly chipping away at it the more I watched it.

Yes, as many other reviews have stated, the story left a bit to be desired, though it`s at least as good as half the other shows I`ve seen. It did leave questions unanswered and I would like a more expansive view of this universe, but I overall enjoyed the way it played out. Nothing amazing, definitely nothing horrible, just a fair story. I feel that it really wanted to leave space open for a sequel, though at the same time satisfy with the 12 episodes it had, which is definitely not an easy thing to do and many would say they failed, I liked it. I`m not saying they succeeded, but it was a fun show to watch, though a few times I felt there was absolutely nothing going on, the rest was exciting and really got me involved. I feel like that`s all it had to do, and in that regard I`m satisfied. If you`re just looking for a good show to watch for simple, brain addling entertainment, then this would be suitable.

As far as art and sound, there were no issues that I saw, I rather liked the art, even if a bit generic, and the sound was spot on for me. Other than that, I can`t say much. Didn`t make me want to rip my ears off and spoon my eyes out, therefore it`s all right.

As for characters, we get all the characters from the first season returning, and they`ve got the same personalities, so if what you want is a similar feeling to the first season you can get it from Root A. There was development, I thought it was enough. We find out more about some of the more elusive characters, though not important, I find they seemed more real thanks to it. All in all, nothing extraordinary going on here, though it`s high quality and easily followed.

At the end of the day (or months of watching) I felt that I got something that could be called a cohesive story which moves foreward and changes throughout the show. I enjoyed the show quite a bit, always looking to the next episode with an anxious smile, knowing that I could watch the episode start to finish without an urge to destroy my computer, even immensly enjoying the seldom moments where it brought me uncontrollable emotion, not always sadness either. I could relate and undertsand the situations (not exactly the same though) and see why the characters do what they do. Though there`re probably countless reiews saying how absolutely aweful this show is, I`m gonna give it a 7. By no means would I consider this to be a bad show, so I`d say watch it if you were thinking to, after other better shows though.
