Mixed Feelings
*spoilers*

Sigh...
Where to begin with something I am so conflicted about. I'm sure if you saw the first season of Tokyo Ghoul you would have probably enjoyed and were highly anticipating a sequel. This is not the sequel the original Tokyo Ghoul deserved. If you read the manga then you would know Tokyo Ghoul and root A are a far cry from what they should be but the original season was still highly entertaining in its own right. Tokyo Ghoul root A falls way too short and does too much in too little time.

Story:
I was incredibly disappointed with the story here... There are too many characters being introduced, and too many being 'developed' without showing how they developed. I will admit there were times where I was excited and anticipating what happened next, but branches and sub plots are just left open-ended and are not explored thoroughly enough. For example : The two half ghoul twins, Kurona and Nashiro's back story of how they became ghouls isn't explored at all. They just sort of appear for the first few episodes and never return. Also the reason for Aogiri Tree going into Cochlea is never explained. Was it to release Matasaka Kamishiro who also never makes a re-appearance? Or was it to just disrupt the CCG? Too many things are left unanswered. 4/10

Art:
The art isn't terrible, in fact I liked the art style during some of the last scenes in the last two episodes like the fight between Amon and Kaneki was well done, but there are a lot of discrepancies in episode 4-5 during the Cochlea fights scenes.... Like the fight between amon and all those ghouls was just drawn terribly. 6/10

Sound:
One of the higher notes for me. The opening and ending music was good, but I think Unravel should have been kept cause it was so awesome. I did like how they implemented Unravel in the final scene with Kaneki walking to CCG. The edited music of Unravel during that scene really brought everything together and made me feel so sad. 8/10

Character development:
Bad. The word describes it all, the character development was straight up bad. Why? Because there was hardly any character development, people are crying, people are angry, people are making bonds, then said people who are making bonds with others die and everyone is back to crying again. 4/10

Enjoyment:
Some of the fight scenes were really well handled like the one between kaneki and Amon as well as the fight scene between the one eyed owl and all the CCG officers. There were also some funny bits which was surprising, but overall there was something still lacking in terms of action and dialogue between characters. 6/10

Overall:
Man this season has had its ups and downs and I am torn. Torn because I love the manga and enjoyed the previous season and feel obligated to stick with the show but also hate it for being such a mess compared to what it could have been. I will stick by this show though to see if it improves because It has such potential but never makes connections between its characters and the story. 5/10
