A really nice work of anime storytelling. There are no less than 5 romantic subplots woven into the story -- two with love triangles. Add to that 3 or 4 rivalries, and you have an action packed drama that you won't be able to escape from until the last episode.

I liked the series mostly for the drama and character interactions. Because of the length of the series, you get to know all the characters of GekkoState pretty well, which was nice. You also get to know many of the other characters, including various villains, pretty well too. This is why Eureka Seven stands out as a great story.

The story has a lot of space age war violence, yet it deeply explores an anti-war theme. This complexity adds to the quality of the show overall. I thought this was well done too.

Praise aside, aspects of this series can be frustrating at times. The "science" of the world is never explained at all, leaving you constantly wondering how the LFOs work, how the weapons work, how ANYTHING works. We go through the first 26 episodes without really understanding the true nature of this strange world, and what it is all about. This was a true oversight. I am not sure if is because it spanned a total of 4 seasons -- perhaps episodes 27 - 50 were written at a later time. Season 3 (episodes 27 - 40) does a good job of explaining the true nature of the world the story takes place in. Ultimately though, the "rules of the world" are pretty fluid and seemed to change especially towards the end of the story. This was not good.
