Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo is a diamond in the rough give it’s a slice of life romance anime, but it goes so far beyond what one would expect from it, even if at the start it seems generic.
I said it will be one of my favorite anime just after 3 episodes for personal reasons and I wasn't wrong as it was indeed a wild ride.
The story in Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo is one of failure in so many aspects of life, it’s about the hard work you put into your dreams, it’s about friendships that go beyond everything I have seen this far in any anime and or tv series and in the end it’s a story about love and what this rare thing can do to us.
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo does a few things almost to perfection in my opinion. The comedic parts are also hilarious at times …those puns ….just epic.
First the relationship between the main characters, I dare say it almost reaches perfection during the graduation speech, I have never cried so hard at any speech before. There are no words to describe the feelings that this anime invoked in me during the graduation speech.
The second thing it does so well is to make you really feel for each character (may it be their successes or failures) and there are few anime that did that for me (Clannad Afterstory is one anime that could invoke something similar form me)
And the third thing they did really well is the “romance” and love part. Given the only ones that mattered were the Misaki/Jin couple and the love triangle between Aoyama Shiina and Sorata though the others did add some interesting flavors to the anime as a whole. Why I think they did a really good job with this other than the Misaki/Jin couple (man that ending to it …just perfect I think very few people could be that dedicated and serious about their relationship at that age…) is the love triangle .
The love triangle, I will have to admit that up until the end confession I couldn't decide who Sorata would chose because it was just an impossible choice…..literary impossible and I think that this is something insanely hard to pull off as both Shiina and Aoyama had some impressive and interesting character developments….specially Aoyama :’(
