I first heard of Pupa when I came on here looking for Recommendations for Tokyo Ghoul, the plot seemed really
interesting and as a huge gore fan I thought I would give it a shot despite the bad reviews and let me just go
ahead and say the bad reviews where right.
As for the storyline, the plot itself was very good and had tons of potential and apparently the manga is more
or less what it should be while the anime itself was made to be made as short as possible. The anime seemed very
rushed as if the episodes only being four minutes long ( Litterally three minutes if you where to take out the
thirty second opening and thirty second end scene ) was not enough to tell you. Add all of this up and you get
an odd anime that makes completly no sense and just seems like an attempt to satisfy horror fans while doing the
exact opposite.
There is also no character developement whatsoever besides the occasional flashbacks to when the brother and
sister where younger and they explain how they where abused. The characters in this anime seem to just "Appear"
with a name ( if lucky ) and not much more.
It had a lot of gore but they censored most of it with a huge black blurry line and the little bit they did show
seriously lacking. They even went as far as censoring a random bad guy pulling a knife and the same bad guy
holding a knife to Yumi's throat.
Overall:
I would give this anime a zero if I could. I would not recommend it. Maybe they will do a reboot where the
episodes are thirty minutes long and go more by the manga instead of by four minutes and cramming everything in
and I can give it a much higher rating but until then it will feel like nothing more than a incest-vore anime
and the worst anime I've ever seen by-far.
