One thing i've learned about the anime community, is that the anime community loves edgy shit, which is probably the only reason Elfen lied doesn't have a 5-6 rating on MAL, the problem with Elfen Lied is it tries to carry the show on a tidal wave of gore and other edgy things and that's pretty much all there is to it.
The problem with this is, the gore loses its charm about 5 minutes in, because they throw so much at you in the beginning, it completely numbs anything else. They should have taken a page out of the book from Evangelion, which barely goes that heavy on gore, but when it fucking does, they don't hold back.
Story 2/10
Like I said, the story tries to carry itself on gore, which is why the story was half assed and rushed. The ending was awful and it feels like nothing was resolved. I hear the manga is better in terms of story and I'm sure i'd watch a remake by a different studio, but as it stands the story is not good, it's not decent, it's bad.
Art 6/10. The opening had some pretty nice visuals but the animation itself was nothing very special and pretty standard for anime's around that time
Sound 8/10 I think the sound was the only decent part about this show. It had some really good music at times and the opening is stellar (depending on your taste, i enjoyed how unique it was)
Character 1/10 The characters were easily the worst part about this show. I have never been so thoroughly annoyed by every single fucking character in a show. EVERY SINGLE ONE, THERE ISN'T A SINGLE DECENT OR WELL WRITTEN CHARACTER IN THE ENTIRE SHOW. LITERALLY.
Let's start with MC, MC is MC and he's generic as they come
Lucy is really annoying too, the Nyu side of her, at least. It seem's the only reason the Nyu side is even in this is because neck beard bait. That's literally it. Let's not forget the pee scene, though. Her other "personalities" or whatever were decent enough.
There is also Yuka, which should have never existed in the show, so let's not talk about her.
