This anime gives you the perfect example of how sad the reality of life can be. We all have had a moment in life when growing up we had no choice but to depart from certain friendships or familial relationships. There is nothing we can do to change the situation, so we have to accept the reality and try to bury those memories. However, sometimes, burying those memories is an impossibility. That is, your emotional attachment to your friend or family member is so great that you lack the ability to just let go.

5 Centimeter per Second is the epitome of this scenario. And it covers a lifespan of sadness that results from such a scenario. I watched this anime alone and it thoroughly destroyed my emotions. I don't think I have it in me to watch it a second time alone. I need to find a friend or close family member to watch it with.

The last time I shed tears was about 15 years ago. I didn't cry watching this but it is the closest I have come to breaking down in these 15 years. It's hard for me to recommend an anime like this to any random person on the street. You need to understand what you are getting yourself into before watching this. It will really try to rip out your emotions.
