Hmm, how do I start this. Actually, I didn’t like Mirai Nikki before (while it was airing.) and placed it on hold. I was thinking, it was just the average survival game with a grand prize, so I stopped there. But that isn’t the only reason for giving it up. At that time, there were heavy spoilers everywhere, people/fans talking what’s gonna happen next, how they like the ending, what is the plot twist, and everything. Yes, it is a really popular anime and gained fans everywhere. Popularity somehow means discussion and discussion somehow means spoiler. It was stupid of me to read through them but in the end, I didn’t care. I liked the idea when I learned what’s going to be the ending, I kinda imagined things, maybe even enough for my own fanfiction. after some time, I gave it some thought to finish the anime. So, enough of my own thoughts, let’s proceed to the review. I minimized the amount of spoilers here to be safe.

PLOT – 9.5/10

The plot is neat, though what I didn’t like is they are throwing out too much mystery then suddenly explaining it towards the end. I’m sorry, my brain just couldn’t handle that much. As I said, it is neat. I didn’t really notice any plot holes or maybe I was just too hooked to the story to notice. For a survival game, I found interesting is the feeling you get from the story. It has the potential to bring out the feels in you. And yes, I admit, I cried a few times in several scenes. Also, there are a few plot twists which totally messed up my predictions in the story. I was like, what? The story is quite unique, I would say. There are many overused plots, character stories and backgrounds but this managed to stand out from them. I may have said I didn’t notice any plot holes in the story but the part I didn’t like is why did they have to face each and every contestant. I mean, there are 12 participants and one or two may have killed each other off because facing the others. Though they were able to use that effectively and I realized that the anime wouldn’t be that great if it weren’t for that. So for all the headaches, mindblown, feels, mysteries, plot twists, and everything they gave me through the plot. I gave it back a 9.5/10.

ART – 9/10

I like the art, yes, but I’m still not going to give it a 10/10. I don’t think the bloody scenes isn’t enough for this anime, but I know that’s just me. In fact, I’m sure that the bloody scenes were just enough, it isn’t overused and also not underused. The fight scenes were good though, I haven’t watched some good fight scenes in a while since most are quite repetitive. Mostly you get is an overpowered main character who you know would win each and every battle and sometimes (worse, always) gets away with no scratches. The way they beat the opponent changes though and I’ll give some credit for that. But this time its different, I actually got some thrill from this anime and I liked that. Also, there are 26 episodes in total, just enough for the whole story. You see lately, I feel that a manga’s potential to be a great anime is reduced when it is adapted to just a few episodes and they try to compress the story to fit the number of episodes which I think is such a waste. So anyway, I’ll give the art and animation a 9/10.

MUSIC – 8/10

The music is very very good, in some way. I mean, the OP definitely fits the anime and its plot. Although I can’t comment much on the ED since when it rolls, I start to think about the episode I just watched. You see, I just mentioned that the throw too much mystery at once. I try to anticipate the next events there. Anyways, before we get off topic. I think the background music during several scenes were a huge part of how it can bring out the feels. I mean, the story itself is kinda lonely, but without a great music to back it up, I don’t think it’ll end up the same. I so loved both the two OP, they bring out some excitement like somehow the adrenaline rush. It makes me active, I don’t know why. I’ll give it an 8/10.

CAST – 7/10

I like how they used characters with so different personalities and how they made their background story but I don’t think its great enough for a 10/10. You see, you get a main character who is always dependent. Yes, I understand how he is afraid of killing, who likes to kill anyway. Maybe me, but it isn’t allowed, so… Off topic. I don’t really like his character but he taught me some things I didn’t expect. I was thinking that if I would be the main character, I’ll get no hesitation to kill or whatsoever. I mean, when everything is THAT messed up, what choice do you get? None. But I learned that talking is important and the truth plus the reasons behind the events, will forever be hidden if we only resort to violence. In the end, I liked the main cast despite hating him before since I was like looking at a mirror. Like the pathetic hopeful dreamer I was. 9/10 if that was the only case. But I thought that, how come these people get this kind of background story and yet. Ugghh. There are some things I can’t comprehend. I mean, there are people who I know are powerful enough to win but didn’t. Pure luck or destiny maybe? Nah, it was the author’s decision. Anyway like I mentioned above, main cast meeting each of them and learning their story, was an effective plot towards the ending. Such background story is 9/10 but the cast itself is 7/10. Sorry.

ENJOYMENT – 8/10

Overall, I enjoyed the whole anime. It lasted in my brain for quite some time and I know for sure that the lessons and stories will be in my heart forever. Yes, I’m quite serious in that and not just being cheesy. I mean, it managed to slip into my dreams so this anime may have been special to me. I watched it continuously with such excitement and happiness so I can’t deny that I really enjoyed this anime. With all the anime that’s been aired and airing, some just leaves a special mark in history and I give this one a nice thumbs up for that along with the anime which I really enjoyed before.
