Pupa (Anime) add (All reviews)
Jun 5, 2014
Pupa is one of those animes that you could stomp on and you wouldn't feel bad for doing it. I was actually excited for this anime, it looked great, but...what the hell happened? This wasn't what I was expecting at all. This show was like trying to catch fish, but they have no bait, no hook, nor even a fishing pole they are just using their hands and hoping to get lucky.

Now let's get on to the review and skip the metaphors

Pupa was made by Studio Deen (That I've heard makes terrible anime adaptions, not most but few bad ones) about two teens, brother and sister, who are both orphans of a terrified-of-her-own-daughter mother and an abusive father. They have no one to help them on their long journey ahead. On her way home, the sister is told to "Don't look at the red butterflys" but ignores the fact and looks at them anyways. This ends up turning her into a man-eating-monster and feeds off of the human flesh. As well, her brother gets the virus and instead of becoming a monster, he is able to regenerate his body no matter how bad the damage. He could be dead and come back to life!

Story 2/10
The story is confusing none the less. It's like they looked through the Pupa manga and flipped to a random scene in the series and animated it. What makes it even worse is that the show is 4 minutes each episode, you could go look away and miss literally the whole episode. Reading the manga would make more sense than watching the anime adaption. (There is even an episode that literally is just watching Yume eat her older brothers flesh, THAT'S IT)

Art 5/10
Now, this is one of the two things I liked about the anime. The art was great in my part and it could have been used better than what was made here. It uses the colors so great in each scene to really make you feel uncomfortable or what the main show was supposed to be, scary!

Sound 3/10
This is the other thing I liked about the show. The opening wasn't bad as I expected, it was something kind of catchy. The ending wasn't really a favorite for mine but none of the less, the sound was average for me!

Character 1/10
Like I said before, they literally flipped through the Pupa manga and picked a random scene! Each episode brings someone new into the series who only appears for half or the full thing (2-4 minutes) and they are never seen again! Our first two and the main characters through this series are Utsutsu and is little sister, Yume. Usutsu is the type that will do anything for his sister to keep her happy and alive. Yume is the little helpless sister who ends up eating her brothers flesh almost everyday! Then we have all the side characters who aren't show at all and are just characters who pop in and pop out.

Enjoyment 1/10
This show was terrible and probably the worst anime I have ever seen since this day. I sadly got excited over this anime that turned out to be just...terrible. If you have plans on watching this anime just don't do it, unless you are wanting to waste time, I would ignore this anime completely!

My overall rating on this show is a good 1/10 since the very first episode. I know Studio Deen has made some good anime, but don't make another one similar to how bad this was!
