At the risk of looking like an uncultured idiot I honestly didn't understand this film. I'm not sure if it's a cultural difference or what, but the story was total nonsense to me. Going in I really wanted to like this movie- and I did like certain aspects of it. Oddly enough, I think what broke this movie for me was just HOW MUCH I liked aspects of it.
I love the art and the setting, the characters are charming, and there are some seriously original Ideas here.
All these wonderful aspects caused me throughout the entire film to rationalize that the good part is right around the corner, waiting for an ending to tie all this craziness together.
Needless to say my wishes were left unanswered.
Watching this is a little like watching five separate movies crammed together, so plot points are brought up and never addressed again, a lot of characters motivations are scrambled, and in the end things seem unresolved.
With so many questions left unanswered I had a frustrating time watching this film.
