Story - 8/10
To do this anime justice, you really need to look at the story in two parts, concept and plot. The concept of the story is actually amazing, basically twelve humans are given devices from the god of time and space, Dues Ex Machina, called "future diarys" that allow them to see up to 90 days into the future. Then, as explained by Deus, he is nearing his death and commands the diary holders to kill each other in a survival game, and the last man standing becomes Dues' replacment. This sounds great on paper, but as the story starts developing after gradually going through the anime, it feels as if it's just pushing you through a pile of cow manure and at the end is the largest peice of shit you've ever seen, the ending. I won't spoil the ending, but i'm going to say you WILL be dissapointed, and the stupidest part is that the OVA, Mirai Nikki Redial, I presume is there only to fix the shit ending, and THAT is still bad aswell! To sum it up, if you liked the concept, you will still enjoy the series and be able to get enjoyment out of the later episodes. BUT, if you don't like the concept, you might as well drop it before reaching Episode 10.
Animation - 9/10
The animation looks great, the characters look great, and the blood sure looks great! And that's great, because you'll be seeing alot of blood! That's really all I can say for the animation, it's great!
Sound - 10/10
Mirai Nikki's soundtrack is phenomenal. Opening 1 sounds amazing, it's fast, catchy, and is something I could listen to for hours without wanting to bash my head in AHEM Caramelldansen AHEM- Jokes aside, Ending 1 isn't as catchy as OP 1, but it definetly is pleasing to the ears. Opening 2 is my favourite track of the bunch. Yes, I like it better than OP1, mainly because it shows off all of the diary holder's powers. Sure, it's not as fast or catchy as OP1, but I'd rather sing this then that. Ending 2 is the worst track, just because it dosen't feel like any of the other songs at all! Overall, the sound really is amazing.
Characters - 10/10
The characters are BY FAR the best thing about Mirai Nikki. Aside for the cowardly main character, Yukiteru, all of them are likable in one way or another. And there are ALOT of characters, so your bound to find one or two you like. I mean, Yuno is a murderous psychopath yandere, Fifth is a five year old who has access to poison gas and other deadly weapons, Ninth is the best terrorist ever, and Twelfth (My personal favourite diary holder) basically thinks he's a superhero of justice, and that's just to name a few awesome characters!
Enjoyment - 10/10
Aside from the bashing I did on the story earlier, you will find at least something to enjoy about Mirai Nikki. Please, give it a chance, even if the story turned you off.
Overall - 9/10
Like I said before, Mirai Nikki is the anime that made me like anime, and there is a reason why. Maybe it's because i've always liked shows with alot of characters, or maybe it's because I like gore. I really hope this review made you at LEAST interested in Mirai Nikki, and to be honest, all of the great things about this anime probobly will pull you through the bad story in the later episodes. So, with that, thanks for reading!
