Ben-To (Anime) add (All reviews)

When I first read the plot of this anime, I believed it would be hilarious. I got my hopes up and decided to watch it. It was nice, but it wasn't what I expected.

The story was somewhat mediocre. Fight Club-style battles that take place in supermarkets and grocery stores for various products. Gangs fight with each other and their leaders take the stamps of vegetables, fruits etc as trophies of their victory. The story sounds pretty shallow and in order to upgrade it, they gave an unessecary depth and showered the anime with tons of useless details. It could have been better off without them.

When it comes to art, there is a good amount of fanservice for those interested. The battle scenes are well coordinated and depicted nicely without too much confusion. The character models are unique for each person and their styles are different. Not a bad job there.

The soundtrack is very poor, consisting of only a couple of tracks. Although the battle theme is really neat and has a lot of energy in it, I don't think it fits well for grocery store beat-up. They could have chosen something better and add some more tunes.

The characters are, at least most of them, cheesy. Nearly all members of the female cast exist to satisfy your fanservice needs (luckily, they achieved that), while the male ones are predictable, lacking depth and development. Nothing impressive there.

Most possibly you will enjoy this one, since it combines weird plot with a nice dose of fanservice with cheap, easy but impossible to resist humour. It's not bad, it will give you a good laugh but you will find yourself wondering "has my IQ dropped after watching this?". Watch it if you got nothing better to do.
