When I watched Clannad, I thought it was merely an ordinary slice-of-life anime. Upon watching the After Story, however, my disposition changed. Clannad: After Story is a unique work of art and one of the best anime ever.

Story: 10/10
To be frank, the plot is nothing particularly special. It simply is about the life of an ordinary man whose joy in life is washed away by tragedies. What makes it truly distinctive is the execution (which I have integrated with the rating of the story). The way this simple story is told makes it perceived as something very beautiful. With no fillers, each episode greatly impacts and affects the storyline, each one executed smoothly.

Art: 9/10
Personally, I find the art of Clannad: After Story cute. The big eyes possessed by the female characters are what intrigue me. The forest scenes look like they were painted which compel me as well. Several people I know, however, think otherwise, but I don't think not-so nice art should prevent you from watching this anime.

Sound: 7/10
The opening song of Clannad: After Story (unfortunately I am unaware of its title) is very compatible with the storyline. *SPOILER (sort of): Actually, by analyzing the lyrics and footage, I was able to figure out the outcome of the plot before it was revealed (if you don't want to know, I suggest you don't read the lyrics). SPOILER* And once my hypothesis had been verified, the next time I had heard and seen the opening, I cried. On the other hand, the closing song does the opposite of what the opening song does. Instead of sustaining the emotions you feel after each episode, it destroys them due to the very upbeat and jolly feel. I recommend that you stop the episode immediately after.

Character: 10/10
The characters of Clannad: After Story are what make it what it is. The characters are relatable and realistic––they reflect human characteristics (which I won't mention as doing so would reveal some events in the story). Furthermore, the bonds between the characters feel real and shown ever so explicitly.

Enjoyment: 10/10
In my opinion, crying over an anime is proof whether or not it was enjoyed. Clannad: After Story made me cry at least thrice–-the most I've ever cried over an anime or manga. Moreover, after each episode, I couldn't wait for the next one, so much so that I finished the season in 2 days even repeating several episodes.

Overall: 9/10
Clannad: After Story is really something that should be watched. If you opt not to watch it, you're missing a rare gem. All the vital elements of this anime are top-notch. Boy or girl, I suggest you watch it soon.
