No.6 (Anime) add (All reviews)
Nov 24, 2013
No.9 is a series never thought I'd watch, that is until I heard that it was produced by BONES, one of my all time favorite animation studios. I'm happy that I decided to get out of my comfort zone and watch this. The first thing that really grabbed me was the promotional video that was released which had the opening song (LAMA - Spell) playing. The animation was beautifully done and it just made me more excited to watch this.
The story is set in a futuristic "perfect" city called No.6 and it follows a boy named Shion who comes in contact with a rebellious guy called Nezumi, who is hiding from the government. Nezumi soon teaches Shion that the world he lives in isn't all that perfect and safe as he thought, and the feeling of safety comes with a cost of loosing your privacy and a big part of your freedom. The story advances a bit awkwardly in the beginning having a couple of rushed like moments making it a bit hard to follow. But in the end it comes together nicely.
This is also one of the first series from BONES (that i've seen at least) which includes a romantic plot between two guys, not that sexuality is a big deal, but it's still nice to see that the romance is done well and in the end you won't even notice that it's two guys, which in my opinion is a big accomplishment.
The animation is, as usual, very well done. And I wouldn't expect any less from BONES. As a student majoring in animation, I get much inspiration from BONES' animes.

I recommend this series to everyone, no matter if you are a guy, a girl, gay, straight, etc. Watch it with an open mind like I did. Shojo animes aren't usually my thing, as i prefer action and blood but this certainly had a positive effect on me.
