Once in a while an anime comes along and blows your expectations for it out of the water. Mirai Nikki is definitely one of those animes.

Note:

If you go into this anime with low expectations for it, or expectations derived from the Manga alone, you're at a good starting point.
The story is easy enough to follow, and the tiny synopsis and further explanations given by the chibi character "Murmur" at the end of some episodes will help clue you in on some of the questionable occurrences in the series. Be sure not to miss those.

A brief plot summary:

Yukki is a high school boy who maintains an indiscriminate diary of everything he observes. One day he is gifted with a "Future Diary" (his indiscriminate diary, only now it automatically records the days happenings in advance for him) by the god of space and time "Deus". He finds out that there are other diary holders, each with their own unique abilities whom he must kill. The victor will become the next god of space and time.

Review:

The story is well developed and thought out, with plot twists frequently. More than enough to keep you entertained throughout the entire series. the character development for the main characters is well done and thorough, though on some of the lesser characters it leaves a bit to be desired.

The art is detailed and enticing, and blends to the mood changes very well. The character color schemes are nice and reminiscent of the color schemes used in the Creator's other title; "Deadman Wonderland".

As for the intro and opening; I thought the intro fit very well, the song was nice and mood fitting. The ending, however I found kind of lazy and very unfitting, the song was also generic, and just over all a pile of blah to me.

The main character, Yukki, is pretty flat and whiny. He whines at every turn, and always has a chaotic good character complex. This is, however, made up for with the complexity of the other characters, such as Yuno and Number 9.
The character relations were well thought out and well placed.

This anime definitely has re-watch value, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys "darker" anime.
