This anime starts out looking like just another one of those harem anime’s, but as the story progresses you see it change from a harem anime into a psychological thriller. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni is one of few anime’s that are able to put you into the mind of a killer; in fact, you often cannot tell what is simply a delusion and what is really happening.
The story does not really have a main character; this is due to the story being told in arcs, each from a different characters point of view. However, the characters develop quite a lot in each arc, often seeming like a completely different person by the end of four episodes. Characters that seem useless at the beginning of this anime become more important as the story goes on.
This series is quite a bit like an unsolved murder case; as more evidence, in other words, information, is acquired, the mystery starts to make sense. For this reason, to fully enjoy Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, you must not strain yourself trying to figure out what is going on; as the story progresses everything will start to make sense.
