Action isn't just a gimmick used in both series but also a way of life for some of the characters. Both series' main male protagonist makes a name of themselves after entering a world that tests the limits of their abilities. As they learn more techniques, they also encounter powerful adversaries. There is great character development for our main male protagonists both as a fighter and as a person. Comedy is also present along with a realistic storyline that focuses on their journey.
Both are about combat sports and the characters undying love for that sport
Both main characters (Kohinata, Minoru/Makunouchi, Ippo) are constantly bullied but one day they are saved by a mysterious fighter(Mutou, Ryuuji/Takamura, Mamoru).
Both main characters and both mysterious fighters share almost identical personalities as well
