While the plot of these two series is very different, I feel that the atmosphere they create is similar. In both there is a mesh of ‘cute’ and almost ‘haunting’ imagery. In fact, Laon features bold line-work and high-contrast art similar to Iwahara’s work. Both involve a bit of magic and otherworldly creatures, fast-pacing, plenty of fun action scenes, and a plot that escalates into a final-boss battle on a “fate of the world” scale. With both series under 10 volumes they make great short reads.
