Both series can get pretty bleak and violent, they both also deconstruct the boundary of good and evil. The cute artstyle in both series is pretty similar too and initially dissonances the reader from how serious the series actually is. The main characters are not exactly the most angelic either.
Also Asuka is sort of similar to Gon
