Female characters in both series are, ugly, and dress in an old-fashioned way, but when a male comes along, he encourages her to change her appearance as she was getting mistreated by others. Both females do end up changing their appearances, and start feeling more confident about themselves. However, Mairuvonich is much more long then Nageki no Marie is.
If you have read one and enjoyed it, you may like the other.
