Magic Knight Rayearth

School girls that have magical powers and can summon mechs (although in Mai-HiME the mechs are animal companions while in Magic Knight Rayearth they actually pilot the mechs) fight against monsters. Both have comedy and get more serious towards the end (but Mai-HiME is darker). The main girl can use fire. Magic Knight Rayearth is more of an adventure show though while Mai-HiME is in a school setting.
Both are a mix of mecha and magical girls and a mix of lighthearted moments and also of course seriousness especially as time does go by in the story.
